The Story Behind the Sprints

How a small riverside project became a platform helping Kiwis build better daily rhythms — one honest habit at a time.

Born Beside the Hutt River

It started with Saturday morning walks along Riverside Drive in Waterloo — neighbours sharing what they were working on: an earlier start, more water, less scrolling before bed. No pitch deck, no investors — just good kōrero and mutual support.

When mates moved to Palmerston North and night shifts made meetups tricky, we shifted online. Turns out the format worked better: async check-ins suited shift workers, and written reflections gave people something to look back on. By 2022, we'd formalised the 21-day sprint structure that still shapes every challenge.

2019

Riverside Kōrero

Informal habit-sharing walks along Riverside Drive. No branding, no fees — just the community lending a hand.

About a dozen regulars. Common themes: morning movement, screen boundaries, and getting kai sorted for the week.

2021

Going Digital

First structured 21-day challenge via shared spreadsheets and a messaging group. Forty participants from Wellington and beyond.

Feedback was clear: defined start dates and peer accountability worked — without needing daily video calls.

2023

Platform Launch

Custom tracker, prompt cards, and micro-crew matching. Challenges expanded well past the Wellington region.

Twelve challenge themes created — from hydration to evening wind-down routines.

2025

Where We Are Now

Operating from 233A Riverside Drive while serving participants across Aotearoa and overseas.

Same philosophy: habits grow through consistency and community — not pressure or perfection.
